The
council have been working with three existing Credit Unions to make sure all
residents have access to a Credit Union as a real alternative to a Bank or
money lender.
“Credit Unions are a great alternative to one of the big
banks. Your money is secure and you know your savings are being used in your
community. It offers all members a great alternative to high cost pay day
loans, loan sharks and expensive hire purchase type arrangements such as the ones operated by Bright house and Perfect home.
Between
them our local Credit Unions have innovative accounts that help people manage
their money, pay rent and other bills, and can include life insurance. They are
all different and of course you can join more than one and have all of the
benefits on offer.
Credit
Unions are not just for people on a low income;
to be able to help the maximum number of local people they need a good mix of both savers and borrowers.
The three
Credit unions cover different parts of the borough and are accessible in
different ways which means there are real alternatives for everyone.
