Labour's Denby Dale campaign team joined by Liam Byrne MP
Liam Byrne MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, joined us in the Denby Dale ward on Thursday.
He started out by meeting local business man and Labour Party member Nick Wilson, the owner of the hugely successful business the Pink Pig, at their offices in Emley business park.
He was joined there by our candidate for the 2014 Local Elections, John Clarkson, a long standing friend of Nicks.
Following a long and useful discussion around how to get young people in to work and to create long term viable employment Liam went on to Denby Dale.
A team of local party workers were waiting to greet Liam, and they then proceed to call upon local residents to discus both local and national issues with them.
I joined John Clarkson and this very active team along with Paula Sherriff, our Parliamentary candidate. Both of them are keen to meet as many voters as possible and address their issues prior to the local and national elections.

Yvette Cooper MP visits Dewsbury Moor
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper MP visited Dewsbury Moor last month to discuss crime and other local issues with Councillors Karen Rowling and Mumtaz Hussain and also Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate Paula Sherriff.
During the visit Yvette walked around the area with the Labour team, meeting with local residents and PCSOs to find out what the main concerns are in the area concerning crime and anti social behaviour.
Yvette and Paula also discussed what could be done to support victims of crime, an issue close to Paula’s heart given her experience in victim support. Yvette praised the work already been done to support victims in Dewsbury, but pledged much better support for victims of domestic abuse if Labour win the next General Election in 2015.

Mirfield: A train station with no provision for people with disabilities
| Image via Grand Central Rail |
Mike was there to highlight the lack of disabled access to the Station
He said: “It is frankly a disgrace that in 2014 we still have a station which is inaccessible to anyone with mobility issues.”
Mike wants either a ramp added to the eastbound platform or a new platform further along where access for disabled people would be easier.
His calls are backed by Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Dewsbury and Mirfield Paula Sherriff.
Ms Creagh, the MP for Wakefield, meanwhile, said Mirfield was not alone and called on the Government to act.
She said: “Mirfield is one of dozens of stations with no provision for people with disabilities or parents with buggies.
“I fully back Michael and Paula in this campaign and will continue to put pressure on the government to take action.”

Kirklees Labour, Cllr Graham Turner: Denby Dale Coffee Morning update
Local Kirklees and Parish Councillor Graham Turner held a drop in coffee morning in Skelmanthorpe Council offices on Saturday the 14th of December.
John Clarkson, the newly selected Labour Party candidate for the Kirklees election in May 2014 attended, along with Paula Sherriff, the Dewsbury constituency candidate for the 2015 General Election.
It was Paula's first time in the village and she clearly enjoyed meeting the many local people who attended.
We discussed a range of issues with those present including the creeping privatisation of the health service, the abject failure of the Conservative and Lib-Dem coalition governments planning policy to protect our green spaces and the high energy bills and the cost of living affecting everyone.
When every one had left Paula and myself and local party activists went door knocking so Paula could get to meet local residents in their homes, which was most appreciated by all those we talked to.
Paula, John and myself will be out and about in the ward on a regular basis once the holiday festivities are over.
John was very pleased to meet so many people and to listen to their concerns, as he prepares to fight the elections next May.
