We know adult social care is in crisis now and is heading towards the precipice in the next few years.
Is It possible that the government have finally realised this?
Tories add voice to NHS calls for extra social care funds
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, the LGA and NHS bosses have all combined to put pressure on Chancellor Philip Hammond to give the social care system a double boost in his autumn statement amid concerns that it is struggling to cope. Sources claim Mr Hammond is considering plans to put between £700m and £1.5bn extra into social care services from April to help reduce numbers of older people being admitted to hospital. He is also believed to be looking at proposals to give councils the power to increase the amount they can add to council tax bills to fund social care. A number of services and charitable organisations have also written to The Sunday Times to urge Mr Hammond to make social care a priority.
