What the opposition said about Kirklees Labour.
An interesting exercise; as we won the majority of seats - 12-11 - would be to collect all the things the opposition said we were going to do in their election leaflets and do them.
On the presumption that the opposition believe in the principal of democracy, surely now that the public have made their choice based on opposition lies, we have a mandate to starve all Conservative and Lib/Dem wards of funding, to stop all road repairs in their areas, to stop working with conservative controlled volunteers on asset transfers, to close all facilities in opposition areas, build on every bit of green land in Conservative and Lib/Dem Wards, etc.etc.
Yes I know it is what they did and what they demonstrate constantly in their budget amendments, but the Labour Group serves all the people of Kirklees in all areas, even people who vote for cuts. We are not like the Conservatives and their Lib/Dem allies, we will continue to be fair to all parts of Kirklees, we will make decisions based on what is failing and what protects the vulnerable, we will continue to seek the growth that we need to pay for increasing social care costs.
Yes we will make unpopular decisions, we will do all we can to protect Kirklees from the vicious attack we are suffering from the Conservative Government, but we can not stand still, and however much we want to increase rather than decrease services, we will accept the reality forced on us.
