Local Election Candidate for Batley West: Marielle O'Neill

Marielle has been active in politics for 10 years, having worked in Westminster and in Washington, DC. As a grassroots community activist, Marielle has worked on campaigns throughout the UK and on President Obama’s 2012 election campaign in Virginia. But as she was born, grew up and lives in Batley, Marielle is most passionate about making a difference here.

As a Councillor she will stand up for local families to ensure they are getting the services they need and their voices are heard. Marielle is deeply passionate about education, believing it is the key to social mobility and a better standard of life. She is committed to promoting social justice and equality. Marielle is passionate about encouraging women to take elected office.

The biggest challenge facing residents of Kirklees is the cost of living crisis with the Coalition Government’s policies making life even harder. Marielle would fight to make sure every family has a chance to get ahead in life by making sure the cuts we do have to make are the right ones. Marielle will encourage local businesses to pay the living wage and is delighted the Council will be paying staff the Living Wage. Marielle brings energy and enthusiasm to the role of councillor and a genuine commitment to Labour values.
