Poppy from 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' secured for Dewsbury

This week in Dewsbury marked a very special occasion in the receiving of a ceramic poppy from the Tower of London.

The Poppy was presented in Dewsbury Town Hall by Cllr Cathy Scott & Mr Roy Williams, a former soldier who served in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. The Poppies are to mark WW1 centenary. The artistic installation entitled, 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' was seen at the Tower of London's famous dry moat filled with 888,246 ceramic poppies.

The poppy was presented for the people of Dewsbury in remembrance of all those who served in WW1 and to the many others who have served their country since and still do so today. Mr Williams said it has been great working on this with Cathy to secure this poppy for the people of Dewsbury.

The poppy will remain at Dewsbury Town Hall on display for 4 years. Please take the time to go and see it.
