Another government attack: Affordable housing rule scrapped on small sites

The Con-Dem Coalition Government launch a new attack on affordable homes

Housing minister Brandon Lewis has announced that the requirement placed on developers to provide affordable housing on smaller sites has been scrapped in an effort to encourage house building.

Mr Lewis said yesterday that sites of 10 or fewer units with a maximum combined floor space of 1,000 sq. m should no longer be subject to the obligation. Nor should local authorities seek tariff-style contributions to provide general funding pots for infrastructure.

Mr Lewis added: "By lowering the construction cost of small-scale new-build housing and home improvements, these reforms will help increase housing supply.”
