13% Rate Rise for Roberts Recycling

Robert Lights Recycling Rant

Robert Light thinks Kirklees should have the same recycling rate as Calderdale. Calderdale achieve their recycling rate by spending a lot more money than we do, the equivalent of £13m a year more. That is the equivalent of a 13% rate rise.

Recycling Costs

The COST of RECYCLING

“We might not recycle all the items some other local authorities do, but to get to that level would mean a massive increase to the ratepayer,” Peter McBride said.

Recycling costs £42.77 per head in Kirklees, while in Calderdale it is £68.45.

In addition Calderdale uses recycling to reduce their landfill tax, incurred by their reliance on landfill. Kirklees use very little landfill instead burning our waste to produce electricity, something that is not taken into consideration in the calculations.

True to form Robert Light, the Kirklees Conservative Leader complains and whinges, forgetting it is not too long ago he lead the council with the same policy as today. He as usual displays his mock indignation, rings his hands, without contributing any constructive comments, or suggesting any ways to pay for improvement. Remember Robert says shifting money down south is justified because the Labour Government gave Kirklees too much money.
