The way to find the facts -

NOT AS OBVIOUS AS IT SEEMS

The person who put in the FoI request demonstrates the way to find out if the council have done their job or not. Though their comment at the end of the first paragraph seems to be an accusation before the fact.

"I have read in The Examiner (Article dated 29 December 2014 17:00) that a spokesman for the Council said that roads have been gritted everyday since Christmas Eve. Having driven down the A629 from Ingbirchworth towards Huddersfield Centre on Boxing Day evening after the snow started, it was so dangerous because the road had obviously not been gritted.

Therefore can you please can you provide me the details to when the A629 from Ingbirchworth to Shorehead was gritted between 24 December 2014 and 29 December 2014."

Response:

Full grit 24th Dec @16.30

Full grit 25th Dec @16.00

Full grit 26th Dec @16.00

Full grit 27th Dec @05.00

A Gritty Exchange Round Ainly Top

GRITTY EXCHANGE ROUND AINLEY TOP

Just to illustrate the way myths are created and grow. This was part of an FoI reply very pertinent to the gritting debate. The question is, will this person who now knows he/she was spreading not grit but untruths, correct their mistake.

Why was half of Ainley top cleared completely and the other half 4" deep in snow ? Think I know the answer to this one ! Yes efficient Calderdale council once again were on top of their game and cleared their roads

We gritted all of Ainley top roundabout as it is in Kirklees and not in Calderdale in line with our winter policy. Calderdale Council does NOT grit any part of Ainley Top roundabout.

Who eventually cleared Kirklees half of the roundabout - please be truthful about this ?

Kirklees Council is responsible for gritting Ainley Top roundabout.
