Businesses everywhere in Kirklees can now offer close contact treatments again and indoor soft play areas can reopen.
From today (Tuesday 8 September), face treatments such as eyebrow threading and make-up application can now be offered again anywhere in Kirklees. Indoor soft play areas, as well as a number of other businesses including casinos, can also now reopen after being closed since March. Kirklees Council Leader, Councillor Shabir Pandor has welcomed the Government’s decision, which was announced on Friday 4 September, but is urging people to continue to stay vigilant.
These easements were introduced to the rest of the country on 15 August but were delayed in Kirklees and other parts of Northern England as part of local restrictions that were put in place on 29 July to tackle infection rates.
Most areas of Kirklees saw these businesses return last week, with local restrictions lifted in all areas in the borough except Batley and Dewsbury on 2 September.
Whilst the restrictions introduced to Kirklees on 29 July around meeting with other households are still in place in Batley and Dewsbury, the businesses mentioned above and close contact treatments can now return.
Kirklees Council Leader, Councillor Shabir Pandor, said: “This is great news. I have been urging the Government to allow these businesses to return across Kirklees so they can start to recover from what has been an incredibly difficult period. I’m really pleased the Government has listened.
“So, I’m pleased – after months of uncertainty, not being able to trade or offer certain treatments – that these local businesses can return and we will continue to do all we can to help them with this process.
“More of our freedoms are now starting to return and it’s to the credit of everyone in Kirklees for doing their bit and keeping themselves and others safe. However, this does not now mean we can become complacent, this pandemic is not over.
“I urge everyone to enjoy the return of these businesses and the services they can offer, but please continue to wear face coverings where necessary, practise good hygiene and adhere to national social distancing rules. The virus is still out there and anyone, no matter where you live, could be infected.”
