Kirklees Council bereavement
services work with the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM)
to raise money for charities through the recycling of metal.
The money raised in Kirklees has
been donated to BRAKE a national charity that promotes road safety and supports
the families of people who have lost their lives in fatal road incidents.
A total of £4000 was raised this
year and was presented to the charity by cabinet member Cllr Musarrat Khan.
Mike Carr, Public Affairs
Advisor from Brake said: “Huddersfield is the home of Brake, the national road
safety charity. The support of Councillor Khan and Kirklees council will
massively assist in our work with people whose loved ones have died suddenly
and in terrible circumstances. We would like to say thank you on behalf of the
many people this funding will help”.
Cllr Khan Cabinet Member for
highways and neighbourhoods said: “The metal collected after the cremation
process has to be disposed of legally and in an appropriate way, by working
with the ICCM we are able to ensure that the material is recycled and that the
proceeds are donated to a good cause.”
