Kirklees Cabinet
approved the loan facility to enable the HDOne Snow Sports Centre development
to go ahead as part of its ambitious £80m overall inward investment plan for a
leisure complex, hotel and restaurants.
The
next phase is for the new multi million pound state of the art Snow Sports Centre development to go ahead which includes a hi-tech
ski slope and snowboarding facility.
There
will be no revenue commitment to the council and potentially £2m council tax
income could be generated year on year. The schemes will also be a catalyst for
growth. It will create 500 jobs and 700 construction jobs; most of these will
go to local residents.
This Huddersfield scheme demonstrates Kirklees is open for business and this will put Kirklees in a
strong position with the region and North of England as an area for a major
state of the art skiing facility & leisure attraction. We will see cranes
go up on this development soon and that will provide the confidence to others
to invest in our towns and villages.
Already
the leisure complex has 75% of its leisure space pre-let and exceeds
projected lets of 60%.
Kirklees
owns 40% of KSDL and part of the deal will include 20% community dividend from
any profits that are generated. This means that this money will be put back in
the council to use for services and projects for local residents.
