A third of solar jobs have been lost in the UK, according to a report by PwC
for the Solar Trade Association (STA). Based on a survey of 238 companies,
around 10% of the industry, over 12,000 solar power jobs have been lost in the
past year because of government subsidy cuts. Almost four in ten companies are
considering leaving the solar market entirely, and three in ten told PwC they
expected to employ fewer people in a year’s time. The STA blamed cuts to
subsidy regimes made since the Conservative government took power last May,
including a 65% reduction in payments for householders considering solar on
their rooftop. Leonie Greene, a spokeswoman for the STA, said: “The survey
shows very regrettable damage to the fabric of the British solar industry and
the need for prompt government action”.
We have yet more clear evidence that the Government is once again destroying a British industry, that provides jobs and clean renewable energy, and might be or might not be going to build at huge expense a nuclear power station, which is not needed, not green, unproven to work and will make electricity more expensive and leave our Children a huge pile of nuclear waste to deal with.
And who benefits, not the British public as all they get is more expensive power, a pile of waste, and a huge bill. However the Chinese and French get the profits, which we under write.
This Government does not believe in state ownership, off vital utilities, yet the French and Chinese company's are state run, no logic, or hypocrisy at all then.
Nearly forgot that they do like to support some industries-- the bankers, spivs and charlatans that work in the city. Again no logic or hypocrisy --- just a typical Tory Government.
