The Mystery of the Missing Kirklees Evictions
As leader of the Council - which I hope to be after tonight's Council Meeting - I was asked by BBC Radio Leeds to do an interview about the 67 people we have evicted due to benefit reform.
My first reaction was anger as I had not been informed of these evictions, so I asked for details. No one in Kirklees (that I asked) recognised the number 67, so we asked the BBC where it had come from. An answer to a FOI request we were told, I immediately asked to see the question and the answer we had given. It could not be traced so we asked the BBC for more details.
They came back to us with an apology, the local reporter had been given the wrong information, the number 67 was not correct. The actual number was 0.
