KIRKLEES CABINET RECOMMENDS INCREASE IN FEE’S PAID TO INDEPENDENT SECTOR CARE PROVIDERS

REPORT TO KIRKLEES CABINET RECOMMENDS INCREASE IN FEE’S PAID TO INDEPENDENT SECTOR CARE PROVIDERS

By Jawad Khan (25 August 2015)

A proposal to Kirklees Cabinet on 25 August 2015 recommended an increase in money given to residential and nursing home providers in the independent sector in line with the Government’s minimum wage increase. The report also recommended an additional increase in April 2016 when the National Living Wage announced in the Chancellor’s 2015 Summer Budget will come in to effect.

Specifically, this increase would mean that the maximum weekly charge for non-residential adult social care support would rise from £458.51 per week to £465.69 per week. This is in line with the Council’s commitment to independent sector providers that any potential impact by increases in the national minimum wage would be met by the fees paid to them.

Council Leader David Sheard commented on this, saying “We are hopeful that in line with the council policy, providers will move towards the living wage for all their employees as soon as possible.”
