About us

Kirklees Labour Group represents the citizens of all 23 wards in the Borough of Kirklees, working and campaigning to reduce inequality and improve life chances for as many people as it can.

Holding 36 of the 69 seats available, giving an overall majority, Kirklees Labour continue to grow and strengthen, as we continue the fight with and on behalf of those people who want better for their neighbourhoods and communities, amidst the cuts imposed on them by the Conservative Government and their now forgotten friends, the Lib-Dems.

It is because of these cuts that Local Government is going through unprecedented change and we, as the leading political group in Kirklees, are the ones tasked with making decisions that are going to be tougher than any group has ever had to make before.

We have the stomach to make these decisions and we have the Will to fight Government wrongs, wherever we can. As a group, we draw courage from our citizens through the spirit in which they continue to make the best of what they have, proud people as they are, and we in turn are proud to fight for them.

We understand that now is not a time to shy away from our duties, that it is not a time to be distracted by petty political arguments that act only as distractions thrown at us by the opposition; now is a time to focus totally on what our citizens are saying and we encourage their voices to be heard.

The national cuts that are enforcing change mean that only by working together can we succeed in preserving and strengthening the neighbourhoods and communities of Kirklees.
