Cllr Shabir Pandor Leader of Kirklees Council appoints new Cabinet Member Cllr Paul Davies

Leader of Kirklees Council, Cllr Shabir Pandor, has appointed Cllr Paul Davies (Holme Valley South) to his Cabinet with immediate effect. Cllr Davies’ appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Cllr Rob Walker last week.

Cllr Davies’ will take on the Culture and Greener Kirklees portfolio.

Cllr Pandor said: “I’m really pleased that Paul has agreed to join the team as my new Cabinet Member. With the challenges we are facing in Kirklees, it was important to act quickly and make this appointment.

“Paul’s dedication as a ward councillor in Holme Valley is outstanding. He also represents one of the wards in the Colne Valley constituency. His sense of public duty makes him the right choice for this role at a critical moment.

“At this time of crisis and uncertainty for our communities and our country, it’s more important than ever that the council remains focused. With Paul’s appointment, the council’s top team will continue to address the urgent challenges the pandemic poses as well as making sure we develop and deliver high quality services to everyone in our borough. The people of Kirklees rightly expect and deserve nothing less.

“COVID-19 Infection rates are beginning to come down, but it’s essential that we see a sustained reduction. That’s why we all need to keep pulling together to protect our families, friends and communities. As a council, we also need to prepare for a vaccination programme that will put Kirklees on the road to recovery. These are the immediate challenges my leadership team faces. And just like people across our borough, we will pull together as a team to achieve them.

“I’ve said before that Kirklees’ recovery will affect even more lives than the pandemic. That’s why Paul, alongside the rest of my Cabinet, is as committed and determined as ever to delivering a recovery that works for everyone. The challenges will be immense: to build an economy that leaves no one behind, to make sure all our children get the best start in life and to deliver services that people really value. This is a Cabinet that can achieve all of that and more.

“Kirklees can come back stronger from this crisis. That is the challenge my team can, and will, overcome.”
