Annual Report 2013-2014: Cllr Naheed Mather

I was elected in 2012 to represent the Dalton Ward and this is my   second annual report for the year 2013/14. This report reflects my second year as a Kirklees councillor representing Dalton Ward.

Background to the Year
Local Government is experiencing massive change and transformation in the delivery of Services and Kirklees Council is no exception in having to support these Coalition Government cuts. The cuts are beginning to work their way through to the detriment of the services provided and receive by our residents. These cuts are unfair and further exacerbate the inequality between our communities.
Participation at Council Meeting Committees
- Full Council Meetings
- Area Committee - Huddersfield
- Overview and Scrutiny Panel for Children and Young People
- Membership of external bodies- West Yorkshire Pension Fund Advisory group - Joint Advisory Group
- Kirklees Labour Group Meetings
Ward Work
I have worked with my fellow Councillor colleagues to carry out mobile surgeries every Saturday mornings and knock on residents' doors on a random basis to check problems they may be experiencing with the Council. It allows us to cover the whole ward and see for ourselves the overall condition of the ward.

I have continued to progress the casework to the satisfaction of Dalton residents and have helped to move forward ideas, projects and meetings.
- Dalton Ward (Councillors) Team with Council Services Officers
- Dalton Ward Communities Support Group
- Dalton PACT(Police and Community Together)
- Front- Line Workers Meetings, Dalton (Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing)
- Community First Panel (Dalton)
- Kilner Bank Improvement Group
- Kirkheaton Yetton Group and others in respect of the future planning of Kirkheaton Library as a community centre with library provision which offers greater access. This important project continues to develop.
- I have attended tenants and residents meetings at Rawthorpe, Standiforth and Longfield and Ridgeway.
I try to attend community events within the Ward like Galas, Fun Days, Exhibitions, Fayres and impromptu residents meetings.

Achievements During the Year
Once again, I am pleased to have been part of all the decisions made regarding the overall improvements made within Dalton. My understanding and knowledge about the Ward continues to grow through effective working relationship between my Ward councillor colleagues, leading to the overall improvement of services we can offer to residents.
Our Community Ward Plan has developed significantly over the past year through collaborative working with the three Councillors, council officers and residents living in the ward.

Future Challenges:
During my third year I will be taking up the role of Chair of the Huddersfield District Committee. A role which I am really excited about and have started working towards it. I am also a member of:
- Corporate Governance and Audit Committee
- Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee
- Resources Scrutiny
