The Conservative Party are the only party on Kirklees Council that have refused to sign the Returning Officers protocol to act fairly in the forthcoming elections. The protocol recommended by the Electoral Commission sets out what candidates and agents should not do.
Instead the Tories have created their own wishy washy pledge and are trying to get others to sign.
As leader of the Labour Party I will not sign anything signed by ex-councillor Iqbal. I witnessed Cllr Iqbal signing an application form to join the Labour Party and a cheque for his subs, the day after he became a Cabinet Member for the Conservative Party. In the Parliamentary Election he "supposedly" resigned from the Conservative Party to stand as an Independent. Within weeks of losing the election where he split the anti-tory vote to allow the Conservative Candidate to win, he re-joined the Conservative Party.
