Highway Spending - perspectives
As our Highway spending falls, due to government cuts, both to the council in general and Highways investment in particular, and how this cut in funding will inevitably lead to a deterioration in the condition of our roads, I thought it interesting to see how much the government - not the Local Authority - takes from the motorists each year. Not counting the 20% VAT, remember 20% VAT is added to the fuel tax, a tax on a tax.
Annual revenue raised by fuel duty £27 billion (2013) Annual revenue raised by vehicle excise duty (road tax fund) £5.9 billion (2012)
