Ravensthorpe in times past

RAVENSTHORPE or Raven St. Hope?

Searching through some junk (or treasures) I came across this collection of postcards of Ravensthorpe and remembered that the Ravensthorpe ex Councillor once got a letter addressed to Raven St. Hope.

I thought it might be a challenge to find the locations today, in fact thought it would make an interesting election leaflet.

PUBLIC TOILETS - Asset Transfer

PUBLIC TOILETS GIVEN AWAY

At Cabinet this afternoon the decision will be made to transfer Public Toilets to Holme Valley Parish Council and to Holme Village Residents Association.

Both organisations must be praised in stepping forward to take on the freehold of these toilets and the council must express its thanks for their actions. Mirfield Town Council have expressed a wish to do the same.

Mirfield: A train station with no provision for people with disabilities

Kirklees Labour candidtate Michael Hutchinson was at Mirfield railway station on Thursday with shadow transport minister Mary Creagh.

Mike was there to highlight the lack of disabled access to the Station

He said: “It is frankly a disgrace that in 2014 we still have a station which is inaccessible to anyone with mobility issues.”

Mike wants either a ramp added to the eastbound platform or a new platform further along where access for disabled people would be easier.

His calls are backed by Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Dewsbury and Mirfield Paula Sherriff.

Ms Creagh, the MP for Wakefield, meanwhile, said Mirfield was not alone and called on the Government to act.

She said: “Mirfield is one of dozens of stations with no provision for people with disabilities or parents with buggies.

“I fully back Michael and Paula in this campaign and will continue to put pressure on the government to take action.”
